Typical Doses

People vary substantially in their sensitivity to THC, the effects they seek, and effects considered problematic.  Optimal doses are therefore individual matters, typically requiring experience to identify.

Some people prefer doses of 2.5mg THC.  Others take over 150mg THC or more; there's quite a range.  The former dose is mild for almost all users, while the latter is highly intoxicating.

Although individual sensitivity varies, and formal research is limited, anecdotal observations suggest some tentative guidelines for edible THC:

  • 2 mg: is the threshold of psychoactivity for infrequent users. Very little to no impairment.

  • ·2.5 mg: most report  psychoactivity equal to a glass of wine or a beer. Doses in this range are popular for social anxiety, encouraging the munchies, and focus.

  • 5 mg: nearly all occasional users will note significant psychoactivity. Significant appetite stimulation. Mild psychoactivity, akin to two to three glasses of wine.

  • 10 mg: Strong psychoactivity for most occasional users. Significant distraction from pain. This dose is often recommended by physicians to stem nausea from chemotherapy.

  • 15 mg: Most occasional users report uncomfortable levels of psychoactivity at this dose. Regular users of cannabis do not.

Doses of 30mg THC to 100mg THC are commonly preferred by those who use edibles frequently and do not consider psychoactivity aversive.

The Right Dose for You

Here are some general suggestions for arriving at ideal doses to consider with your physician:

  • larger doses produce more intense and longer lasting effects.

  • overdose (taking too much) can be seriously unpleasant: Accidental overdoses aren't fatal, but taking too much can be frightening, so here are ways to minimize that risk:

    • Start with a low dose, less than you think will be ideal. You can take more next time if necessary, but only time will reverse the effects of taking too much.

    • Wait at least 90 minutes (preferably 120 minutes, or 3 to 4 hours if swallowed on a full stomach) before taking more CoconutTHC. It may take that long to fully experience the first dose, so consuming more too soon is unpredictable.

    • If you need more THC, it is probably safer for those who smoke or vaporize cannabis to supplement that way, rather than prematurely taking more orally. Inhaled effects are easier to manage because they are apparent in minutes and shorter in duration: You know the effects before taking more, and the consequences of taking too much dissipate more quickly.

  • Avoid mixing drugs, especially until familiar with effects of the CoconutTHC. Alcohol and other CNS-depressants can intensify cannabis effects, and vice versa.
